LEAD BODY AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The lead body is Medway Council and Theatre31 is project managed by Icon Theatre Based in Chatham, Icon Theatre’s work is shaped by the communities of Medway and north Kent, utilising a process called collective theatre to explore local stories and social issues. Icon also make shows which tour nationally and engage individuals in unexpected settings, working with disadvantaged and excluded communities, to highlight voices that are not usually heard. Icon Theatre’s work supports participants to develop strong, authentic voices, gaining social, professional and creative skills that lead to education and employment opportunities, as well as an increased sense of empowerment which acts as a catalyst for further social change.
To develop and deliver Theatre31, Medway Council undertook two open procurement processes for the project management of the programme; the first for the initial set up phase from June 2019-2020, the second for the full delivery phase of Theatre31, running from June 2020- 2022.
Theatre31 wouldn’t be the programme it is today, without the continuing brilliant support from its partners, particularly the Medway and Sheppey Local Cultural Education Partnerships (LCEP’s). The LCEP’s are innovative partnerships between cultural providers, educational institutions and local authorities that aim to join up and improve cultural education provision for children and young people in their town, city or region. Sheppey and Medway LCEPs comprise a wide range of arts, cultural and heritage providers, music education hubs, schools, and local authorities.
